Our Process
So, you'd like to learn more about how our rods are made and truly, we'd love to tell you, however our attorneys won't let us.

Here's what we can share with you though.

First, there is no other company in the world that makes fishing rods in the manner in which we do.

Each Colt Rod Company blank is individually handmade in a 6-stage process which takes approximately 5 man hours per rod.

Through an ongoing relationship with University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Engineering, a series of testing equipment and procedures has been created to assist us in assessing the performance characteristics of our Hextreme technology.

Once the blank has been built, it then goes through a battery of tests developed by UNLV to check for overall performance control for straightness, dead lift abilities, high stick abilities, deflection, weight parameters and torsion control. (they tell us our sensitivity testing equipment will be completed soon!)

After meeting the requirements of the tests noted above, the blanks are then painted and are sent to our finishing facility in Battleground, WA.
While there, the blanks are transformed into finished pieces of art by a group of 6 individuals whose combined rod wrapping and finishing experience is over 100 years. These are the same people who have finished rods for legendary names such as G. Loomis.

The finished rods are then checked for overall aesthetic quality and are then ready for sale or distribution.

After being finished, the rods then go through a final step where the new owner's information is electronically loaded on to the visible RFID chip located above the handle of the rod.

Finally, the rod is sent out into the world to do what it was intended to do, fish magnificently for the rest of its life.

If it sounds like making our Colt Hextreme Technology rods is lot of hard work it is, but then nothing worth having in life is ever easy… and we think our rods are worth having.
